Hi! On Friday, October 23, I watched a TV Show and product placement was spotted: Malta Goya Drinks and Mrs. Butterworth’s Syrups in The Queen’s Gambit: Episode 2 “Exchanges” (2020).

I’m just so curious as to why malta would be featured in a middle America @960s grocery store. That is a specifically hispanic drink that is hard to find even today. Why would the director choose that product?? I love malta so I’m very curious!
Yea that was out of place.. no, actually that was WAAAAY out of place and mah briefly break the viewer’s immersion. I’m gonna guess that it’s a sponsorship or some sort…but then again they got malta goya right next to it.. they sponsor it too.. two different competition company?
Marito is right. The Malta India? It has been around since 1939. It would be more likely to be found in New York where Puertorican migration was vast in the 50s. It is the best brand and hard to find. I love it but I can’t figure out it’s placement here.

Same.. that was very interesting. Watching for the first time and saw it so I googled it and ended up here. Curious.
I agree the very first thing I noticed

Not just the Goya Malta, there’s also Malta India and Cafe Bustelo! I know the actress playing Beth is Latina, but can that be the reason? Strange.
