Sex and the City is an American comedy-drama television series on HBO created by Darren Starr. Episodes aired from June 6, 1998, to February 22, 2004. In December 2021, season 7 of the iconic series will be released. A total of 104 episodes were filmed as part of seven television seasons. The average length of an episode ranges from 25 to 35 minutes. One of the series’ regular writers and directors is Michael Patrick King.
The show is set in New York City and follows the lives of four girlfriends in their late 30s as they freely discuss sex, love, and career issues. The series also raises the issues of safe sex, sexual orientation, promiscuity, feminism, the role of women in modern society, and many others.
In addition to storylines that directly involve aspects of sexual and love life, the series also reflects the major social, political, economic and cultural trends of the time. The series is based on the book of the same name by journalist and author Candace Bushnell. The main cast has remained the same throughout the series – Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon.
