Pepsi was first introduced as Brad’s Drink on August 28, 1898 in the Jacksonville, North Carolina soda fountain of drugstore owner Caleb Bradham. The original formula was invented by Bradham, and is a combination of carbonated water, sugar and vanilla with traces of essential oils of spearmint and cinnamon. Its unique taste gained rapid popularity, and Pepsi was soon marketed as “Brad’s Drink”, then renamed to Pepsi-Cola in 1898.
