Pepsi was created in 1893 by Caleb Bradham, who coined the name Pepsi Cola. Bradham sought to create a fountain drink that was appealing and would aid in digestion and boost energy. His first attempt was to mix vanilla, sugar and carbonated water. He named his drink “Pepsi-Cola” and registered the Pepsi-Cola Company in the state of New Jersey in 1898.
