A classic coming-of-age tale of a burgeoning street-wise kid from Philadelphia who gets shipped “across the pond” to live with his relatives in then-glamorous (or so it seemed) Los Angeles. The fish-out-of-water scenario, relationships among family members, cultural clashes, innocence lost, etc., all made for great comedy without ever going into the realm of demeaning or insulting anyone. Will Smith is wonderful as the main character.
