Coke has a partnership with Stranger Things during this season, but no money actually changed hands. Coke re-released limited-edition New Coke in the lead-up to the season, which got tons of free press for Coke AND Stranger Things. As such, it was viewed as a mutually beneficial relationship. So while Coke is a brand partner, there’s technically no product placement here. I’m assuming that’s why Pepsi and Coke can coexist naturally in this scene. If it were true product placement, Coke would likely veto any Pepsi products from appearing.
